Case Studies
Affinity Water - London Road
Water Companies are stringently measured by the regulator OFWAT on their leakage metrics and health of their assets. A lot of water networks are made up of cast, asbestos cement & PVC installations that date back as far as Victorian times, meaning the water companies do not have modern day data collection visible on these parts of the network.

Affinity Water identified a failed valve on a strategic 800mm trunk main supplying a large section of their network.
Failure to address the issue quickly risked severe service disruption, potentially affecting tens of thousands of properties.
-
Assess the condition of the asset
-
Work collaboratively with Affinity Water to design a solution
-
Enable repairs without shutting down the main, ensuring continuous supply
-
Overcome significant site access and operational constraints in a rural environment
The Solution
Following hydraulic modelling, the agreed approach was to install a 450mm bypass system spanning over 200 metres. This design enabled the 800mm main to remain fully pressurised throughout the works.
To deliver this, CLC:
-
Implemented specialist line-stop equipment to maintain pressure
-
Coordinated multiple supply chain partners for seamless delivery
-
Maintained rigorous safety and quality control through our electronic risk management system, enabling real-time review by senior leaders and the SHEQ team
-
Managed complex access challenges on private farmland, including full liaison with local highways authorities to secure essential permits
Duration of works: Approximately 3 months
